Conducting Formal Investigations (Staff Identification and Selection)

Target Audience: Those organisations who have a need or are seeking to identify and select appropriate members of staff to be appointed on a full, part-time or ‘ad hoc’ basis to undertake internal investigations into instances or allegations of staff misconduct such as bullying, harassment, discrimination or other Employment Law contraventions, and criminal matters such as minor instances of theft, fraud and deception.
Aims of Programme: Whilst focusing on, but not exclusive to, members of staff who will be performing the role of Investigating Officer, this service operates in conjunction with the client organisation’s existing staff selection processes so as to help provide rigour and objectivity in identifying, nominating and then progressing through those processes. The objective of the service is to enable the client organisation to have a greater and ‘in depth’ understanding of the personalities who either aspire to or are invited to perform this crucial role as a basis for the host organisation’s ultimate decision-making responsibility for selection to this role.
Service Style This service is based upon the use of validated personality questionnaires with associated tests and exercises which are administered and interpreted by trained and qualified assessors. Working in liaison with the client organisation, we help to create and articulate professional role specifications or job descriptions or, if either or both of these are already in existence, validate them on behalf of the client organisation. This is undertaken from the outset so as to provide a basis for determining selection criteria and the accompanying skill and competency sets, and for providing for the tailoring of the personality tests and associated exercises, all of which require agreement and ratification by the host organisation prior to administration. Their subsequent administration and interpretation can be undertaken on an individual applicant basis, or with applicants in groups; the client organisation determines its preference on this point and the service is provided accordingly. Feedback is provided in written form and, if the client organisation agrees, directly to the delegates in a ‘one-to-one’ or group event.
Outcomes: A client organisation which is reassured with regard to the objectivity and competency of those performing the crucial role of Investigating Officer, its responsibilities and requirements, and able to present itself in this way in the face of criticism or the need to defend itself and the associated practices and procedures upon which investigations are undertaken, should the need arise.
