Conducting Formal Investigations - Management Report Writing Skills Training Workshops

TARGET AUDIENCE: Those members of staff who have completed the Foundation Workshop of the Investigating Officer Training Programme.
AIMS OF PROGRAMME: This workshop builds upon the learning which delegates will have derived from the Foundation Workshop, again providing them with knowledge, skills and experience of how to prepare and compile a professional management report based upon a cogent analysis of the evidence gained as a consequence of completing the investigative phases. Whilst the particular focus of this workshop is on the preparation and compilation of the management report, this is conducted against the necessity of formulation succinct and supportable recommendations in appropriate circumstances, thereby enabling subsequent management decisions to meet and exemplify the required standards at this crucial stage of an investigation.
LEARNING STYLE: As with the Foundation Workshop, the training is workshop-based and takes the form of facilitated learning. This workshop takes as its core an extension of the case study material utilised in the former workshop, with delegates provided with a set of papers comprising witness statements, records of interview and supporting documentary evidence from which they are exercised regarding analysis and identification of contraventions, and of the writing of key sections of the management report such as executive summaries, details of the investigation, analysis of the evidence, and summary and recommendations. Again, the workshop is highly interactive and participative so as to ensure that the learning is fully embedded.
OUTCOMES: Investigating Officers who are confident, skilled and competent to prepare and compile a professional management report following an objective and dispassionate analysis of the available evidence. In addition, each delegate leaves the workshop with a practical set of models and working tools to apply to investigations, and a facility to record and to develop their own methodologies as they progress through investigations.
PROPOSED DATES: Workshops are held throughout the year according to the needs of each client.
NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS: Each workshop comprises a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 10 delegates so as to ensure that aims of the programme are fully met
DURATION OF PROGRAMME: The programme is delivered as either a 1 or 2-day event according to the needs of each client. The criterion upon which this decision is based is that of the level of learning gained by the workshop delegates. In the 1-day event the delegates’ involvement in the individual and group exercises is limited owing to the time constraint, whereas in the 2-day event delegates work through the complete management report in detail and ‘fast time’, writing the key sections and sub-sections of the report based upon the case study.
COST: The cost of the service is £1,200 for the 1-day workshop or £2,400 for the 2-day workshop.
