Presenting a case at or appearing before a Discipline Board, Employment Tribunal, Civil, Criminal or Coroner’s Court

Target Audience: Those members of staff who are designated as, and trained in, the role of an Investigating Officer, or who undertake a similar role.
Aims of Service: This service is specifically tailored to meet the needs of those Investigating Officers who have successfully completed an investigation and are required to present the outcome to a Discipline Board constituted within their own organisation or who, as a consequence of their involvement in an investigation, are required to attend an Employment Tribunal or a Civil, Criminal or Coroner’s Court as a witness. With regard to the Discipline Board aspect, delegates are briefed on the role and responsibilities of such bodies, the relevant processes and procedures for hearing a case, and of their own role and responsibilities as the presenting officer, before they are exercised on the learning and understanding gained. In terms of appearing as a witness, delegates receive a thorough briefing on the nature, purpose and role or the Court before which they are required to attend, and of their role and responsibilities as a witness.
Service Style: This service is provided to individuals either directly on a ‘one-to-one’ basis, or in small group sizes according to particular needs which a client organisation is facing at any given time. Attention is paid to the key aspects of preparation and organisation as a presenting officer to a Discipline Board, and of the questioning of witnesses and other parties. The approach adopted is to provide overview and identify relevant standards, needs and expectations of the board members, and of then embedding that learning through role play and other related exercises linked to feedback and reflective appreciation. Role play is also an important feature of supporting the learning and understanding of those investigating officers appearing as witness at Civil, Criminal or Coroner’s Courts, and of contextualising their appearances according to particular court which they will be appearing before.
Outcomes: Investigating Officers who are confident and competent to professionally present a case at Discipline Board to the benefit of all parties, or who are equally confident and competent to appear as a witness at any of the three types of court mentioned. For Discipline Board members there is the added benefit that they will have confidence in the adjudication which they undertake, and of the consistency of their judgments and findings with the required standards and imperatives pertaining to such boards.
Proposed Dates: The service is available throughout the year and is commissioned according to the needs of each client.
Number of Clients: The service can be provided to either a single identified individual, or a small group of individuals not exceeding 5 in number.
Duration: The service is provided in a session of 4 hours’ duration.
Cost: The service is based on an hourly cost of £150.
Provider: Fulcrum Training Services Ltd.
